ADMISSIONS POLICIES
Please, read our FAQ carefully before applying for admission to the university. It is especially important that you understand that:
- The University of Celtic Wisdom courses are all self-directed. That means that you get to pick and choose which aspects of each subject most interest you. Self-direction allows you to pursue your own interests within each of the subjects and develop your own theories and understanding of the subject.
You study four units each year allowing for approximately three months per unit. At the end of every three months you submit a paper of at least five hundred words in length -- about two manuscript pages -- to the Dean of Studies. Click here for full information.
The Dean of Studies reviews your paper and, if you have shown that you understand the subject you are given a pass mark in that unit. When you have successfully completed each year's courses, you are awarded the corresponding honour for that year. For a complete list of the honours, click here.
- The entire University of Celtic Wisdom curriculum takes six years to complete and there is an additional seventh year during which you write and defend your thesis. For more information on writing and defending a thesis, click here.
- Each unit is $36.00 USF and you must register for four units in each year. Your total tuition in each year is $144.00 USF. The tuitions may or may not increase from year to year. The University of Celtic Wisdom will try not to increase the tuitions by more than 10% from one year to the next.
- You are given a course curriculum consisting of links to source documents, ancient texts, timelines and histories, genealogies, archaeological surveys, and scores of scholarly articles on Celtic studies that are all available on the internet. In the normal course of events it would take the average person many months to discover these links.
- Beginning with your fourth paper your work will be published in our reviews journal. All students have access to this journal and all students are encouraged to comment on the published papers and/or discuss their own papers with the student body. To encourage this conversation, all students are members of the UCW elist.
- Each year in which there is a sufficient body of work from the students, twelve papers will be selected for publication in an annual review. Your final thesis will also be eligible for publication through Elder Grove Press.
- In addition, the Dean, Tira Brandon-Evans, FS., CH., will be available to help direct your research. The Dean will also personally read your papers and comment upon on them, keep track of your progress and maintain your student records.
