John B. Hare
John B. Hare is truly a 21st century renaissance man: musician, computer programmer, computer games designer, cyber-artist and the driving force behind the monumental website Sacred-Texts.com. Hare began working with computers in high school, writing programs and designing games. He acquired his BS in Linguistics at Kresge College in 1978. Transferring to University of California at Santa Cruz, he continued his studies in Linguistics and added Anthropology, Ethnomusicology and Political Economy to his cirriculum. John continued his coursework in Computer Science with studies in data structures, compiler theory, computer architecture and programming.
But John B. Hare is not all work and no play, as shown by his eager and dedicated participation in the Punk Rock band Dalkon Shield - the only Punk Rock band named after a defective birth control device. If we feel dismay at the thought of this extraordinarily talented man contributing to the fall of civilization as we know it through his anarchistic Punk Rock leanings we may be comforted by his greatest project - Sacred-Texts.com. This website is bringing together the sacred and philosophical texts of the world into one great internet archive. Texts from every continent are included. Faith systems and philosophies of all ages are gathered together. If the only thing Mr. Hare had ever accomplished was to create Sacred-Texts.com he would be deserving of the highest praise and our sincerest gratitude.
When he was kind enough to grant us permission to use his graphic as the cover art for this issue I asked him what megalithic ring it depicts. Here is his reply.
"It was constructed entirely in a 3d package, Bryce3d. So it's not any specifice real world place, just something out of my unconsciousness."
What an interesting unconscious mind!
