DESERT HORSE ©
by Nancy J. Sandlin
I found my spirit on a desert horse
Like water, she took the path of less force
Barely touching the earth as she coursed for the sky
Her beautiful animal spirit wanted to fly
Unicorn disguised as an Arabian mare
Galloped wildly with the greatest of care
With the thunderous glide of her muscular pace
We were winning the lead of the sunset race
Dust flying behind us and eyes squinted low
We outran the shadowed angles of afternoon glow
Between cacti, ravens, and devil storms
She maneuvered easily without breaking form
Somewhere between the dusk and the horizon
On the painted earth, between moon and sun
Her great white spirit mixed with my own
And on that desert horse my soul galloped home
