Kianda, Mari, Mor, Here Our Cry!

The waters of our planet are one. One life force. One flowing entity, a single being. When people began soaring above this planet they saw something amazing. They saw how blue she is. They called Her the blue planet. She is blue because the surface is over seventy percent water, oceans. It is interesting that we humans call this planet the Earth, when in fact she is a water planet. Imagine if we called her ‘the Water’. The seas are one vast ocean. Because we are such tiny creatures we needed to compartmentalize this vast ocean and give individual names to certain areas. The names we presently use to aid us in grappling with this huge force of water are the Mediterranean, Atlantic, Arctic, Indian, Pacific, Antarctic, and Southern oceans. This is what we do, we take things that are beyond our understanding and break them down into small parts, give those parts names and hope we may have some control over them. [1]

I have stood on the sea bottom at Hopewell Rocks, Nova Scotia, in Canada. I have climbed the steps to the high place and watched as the Bay of Fundy filled again with seawater. How very small I felt! How very powerful the sea is!

It is said that the moon pulls the tides. I think it is a dance the Earth and Moon entered into long before a human breath was felt, long before a human sigh was heard.
It is interesting that the ‘total body water’ in the human body is close to the percentage of water on our planets surface.

“In men about 72% of the body mass is water. This value is about 68% in women due to a higher proportion of body fat. This is the total body water.” [2]

She has made us of her substance. We are one with Her. We ebb and flow with the movement of Her tides.

I remember the first time I swam in the North Atlantic. I was very young and had been told not to open my eyes under water because the salt water would sting them. When I swim I am most often under water, it feels very natural to me. It was a beautiful sky blue day; the water was foamy white and wild. I desperately wanted to see how things looked under there. I opened my eyes. They did not sting. It felt wonderful. I knew instantly that my eyes did not sting because their liquid was the same as the salty sea itself. That day I wished I had gills so I could swim forever and never have to come up for air.

Recent reports state if we continue to pillage the seas, as we are doing today, the oceans will be devoid of life in just over forty years. What are we doing? Why are we doing it? Why do we want so very much more than we need? If we took only what we need for survival how much less harm would we do? How is it that the lust for money and things can cause us to destroy the very thing that gives life and sustains our lives? Where have we gone that we have forgotten who we are?

Well, maybe it is enough to know that we are present in an age where the activities of life among humans are not sustainable by our planet; and it is our responsibility to help ourselves and our planet heal. How do we begin?

Many of us have implemented strategies to help reduce the harm we are doing individually. Many cities and towns have reduce, reuse, and recycle programs. Most of us know how to minimize or eliminate the use of harmful chemicals in our homes and gardens. Many of us only buy things we need to avoid over use of the planets resources.
Of course all of this applies to those of us who live in the consumer culture of excess. Those who dwell in the lands where everyday survival means just getting water, food and shelter to sustain life are not causing the harm that is being done in the lands of overindulgence.

What else can we do? To begin, we must know who we are. We must understand very clearly that we are children of this planet. She made us. She sustains us. She deserves our respect and love. We must remember. We must remember now!

Throughout this age She has been known by many names.
Bheara, Scottish sea goddess, the White Lady.
Branwen, sea goddess of Brittany, goddess of the Moon and Love.
Kianda, goddess and guardian of the Atlantic.
Mari, sea Mother. She wears blue robes and pearls.
Mor, Celtic Sea Goddess.

We call to you, oh Great Goddess of the Sea.
Oh, Mother of all life.
Let us call to one and all.
All her names, all her aspects.
Kianda.
Mari.
Mor.
Here our cry!

Help us to remember you.
Turn our ears to hear your voice.
Move our bodies to walk softly upon your planet.
Teach our hearts to know that which brings life and healing to all.
Kianda.
Mari.
Mor.
Hear our cry!

Journey to the Great Sea Goddess

Let us begin by visiting the Great Sea Goddess.
She will teach us what we need to know.
This is a Guided Journey for those who are skilled in such things.
On this planet the ocean is everywhere.
I want you to position a chair so that you are facing in the direction of the ocean.
For those on Islands face in the direction of an ocean beach you are familiar with.
For those near the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian or other ocean sit facing it.
For those deep within a continent make a decision which coast you would like to face and sit facing that direction.
The idea is that you are choosing your path to set out and meet the Great Sea Goddess.
Sit yourself comfortably, have pen and paper ready to record your journey after its completion.
Call your Guides to be with you.
Relax in whatever way you are familiar with.

We begin:
There is One waiting to see you.
It has been many years.
You have wandered far.
Come with me!
Take my hand.
We will walk.
We will fly.
We soar above your home.
We go in the direction of the nearest ocean.
We are quickly over the water.
The sky above is blue.
The water below is calm and peaceful.
You feel eager to meet Her.
It has been many years.
And yet, no time has passed.
We see dolphins playing and jumping below.
We hear a sea bird cry above.
Our speed slows.
And we begin to descend.
We are still over the Ocean.
The water becomes a lighter blue.
We know land is close by,
But we cannot see it.
We are floating above the ocean.
Standing as if on land.
Feeling warm and safe.
Slowly, the water before us begins to rise.
A shape begins to form.
She has long flowing, shimmering
Light blue robes of water.
Her face is gentle and kind.

We look into the eyes of the One who made us.
She looks upon you.
She welcomes you.
She speaks to you.
Do not be afraid!
Listen, hear her words.
Remember what she says to you.
Ask if there is something you can do to help her.
Remember what she asks of you.
Make only such promises as you are certain you can keep.
If need be offer a modified service to her.
Come to an agreement with Her on how you may help Her to heal.
Be very respectful.
Take care to think before you speak.
Be grateful to Her, for your life, for all that is.

If you are comfortable move towards Her. She will open Her arms and envelope you. You will know in that moment that you are one.
If you are not comfortable doing this at this time, that is okay.
You may return as many times as you wish.
You may complete this part of the journey at another time.
Thank Her.
Remember Her words to you.
Remember your Promise to Her.
She flows back into the ocean and is unseen.
We say goodbye.
We give thanks.
When you have completed your meeting with The Great Ocean Faery,
You will begin to return home.
We turn and soar over the water.
Back to the land of your home.
Back to the building you live in.
Back to the chair you are sitting in.
I vanish like mist.
You open your eyes.
You are in your room.
You take up your pen and notebook.
Write everything you saw, felt, heard, smelt and all that is beyond words.
Go into your day.
Ground yourself in your usual way.
Eat, drink, breath,
And Remember.
